Well, I think it's partly due to the 9958 not performing up to the mSR out of the box. People who purchased it probably expected a really good clone of the mSR.

Fact is, GW took liberties when they copied the mSR for their FP heli. In some cases the chose to use the mCX design for their fix pitched part on the 9958. i.e. The shorten swash hub balls. The landing skids are mCX. The rotor head and main blades are also a copy of the mCX rather than the mSR.

No doubt, this is to reduce tooling cost.

Those who follow this forum are already more inform and know the short coming of the 9958. And they also know it's strengths over the mSR. In comparing it to my own mSR, the 9958's strengths are...
    • Low cost of entry into a hobby grade 4ch FP micro heli.
    • More durable frame than mSR. The mSR's frame loves to break body pins. Just sitting there on the table, it's canopy stresses the body pin forward. It doesn't look right. Because of this, the body pins breaks off very easily.
    • Stronger landing skids. Both Solo Pro and mSR has landing gear that breaks a lot more easily during crashes.
    • Better hover stability due to the weighted flybar. But it's also a negative for the more advance pilots, as it dampens your cyclic commands too much.
    • Near bulletproof canopy. Cheap to switch canopy color, yet super strong. Negative point is, it's heavier due to the thicker plastic used compared with the thin, lexan like material of the mSR and Solo Pro.
    • Low cost 5-in-1 board. I have broken more mSR 5-in-1 with the mSR, yet I barely fly them. My test 9958 has so many horrendous crashes due to overly aggressive mods I've done, yet I haven't broken its' 5-in-1 yet. Maybe it's the strong canopy protecting it. The Solo Pro with recent RX revision seem to be dying at a increase rate as well. But at least it's only $23-$26 versus mSR's $60.
    • Low cost maintenance due to cheap parts. Negative point is, you gotta place your order over seas and wait for it to arrive. The smart hobbyist would order a bunch of spare parts to have in their "crash kit."
    • Best of all...the ability to bind to a programmable TX like the Turnigy 9x

Here's my list of negatives not already presented above in case anyone is wondering. Luckily, there's remedies for many of these.
    • Weak blade balls...prone to breaking (Switch to mCX blades and rotor head)
    • Tail fin likes to pop off upon crashing (Remove or glue it on permanently)
    • Landing skids like to come undone during crashes (Put some CA or White glue. Let it dry. Then pressure fit back on)
    • Tail motor wires are not the enamel kinds like the mSR and Solo Pro. So it can fray if you crash hard enough to move the tail motor mount forward. (Purchase the Solo Pro/Bravo SX tail set when it's time to replace motor)
    • And the biggie that we still haven't conclusively figured out...the possible flyaway problem (Upgrade to a Turnigy 9x)
    • Not quick to respond to cyclic commands. (Mod to lengthen swash hub ball and add the mSR flybar)
    • The purple color canopy (At least it's the fastest...j/k)
